A short biography

I was born on a farm near Buckfastleigh, Devon, England in August 1959. My father became a priest in the church of England shortly after I was born and also pursued a career in teaching, but he never forgot his farming roots.

I attended Buckfastleigh primary school and then King Edward VI comprehensive school at Totnes where my father was head of religious education. I loved maths and science at school, but also enjoyed music through my involvement with the school orchestra. My instruments were piano and violin.

I was raised on the farm until I was 18 when I went to Reading University for three years and obtained a first class honours degree in Cybernetics and Control Engineering. Computers always excited me, and working with them formed the most interesting part of my degree.

After exploring two widely differing jobs I set up my own computer programming business in 1984 which has given me many interesting opportunities over the years and is still running strongly today. To satisfy my interest in computer hardware I also sell, repair and upgrade PCs within the business.

Cycletouring has turned out to be my main recreation which I pursue every week without fail. I've cycled to all parts of Britain with the club, and we've also been abroad on several occasions. Badminton has been another sport that has rated highly on my agenda.

I have always enjoyed working with children, and I've been able to explore this through long-term fostering since 1986.  All four are doing well, and helping them to achieve that in some small way has proved very rewarding. I have also been running a computer games club for children aged 8-16 since 1984 which is still as popular as ever with local youngsters.

I'm really very happy with my life at the moment, but there are plenty of things that I plan to do in the future if time allows.
